After finishing up Brookfield’s first Greenfill project last year, BrightLeaf Homes is showing off its 2nd Brookfield Greenfill project. Based on the concept of highly energy efficient homes with modern layouts on already developed lots in existing neighborhoods, 4146 Grove is the first new home constructed in Brookfield certified to Energy Star 3.0 and the DOE’s new Zero Energy Ready Home programs.
The large front porch and classic gables that blend in with the other homes on the block camouflage some of the details that make this new home sustainable. The passive solar design, high air tightness, the fully insulated R-21 walls and R-60 attic, the triple pane R-5 windows, or the energy efficient appliances and lighting are all things that are subtle but will contribute to very low utility bills and high levels of indoor comfort. Efficiency aside, the open first floor plan, 4 bedrooms, and fully insulated unfinished 8’ tall basement make this an appealing new home for anyone even without the green “warm fuzzies”.
The sustainability focus of this project goes beyond the energy efficiency and includes low/no VOC materials and finishes, recycled content building materials, and the majority of trade contractors based within 10 miles of the project. Easily qualifying for Energy Star and currently for sale, this home continues the mission of BrightLeaf building highly energy efficient new homes in the near west suburbs.
