Sustainability with Style
A historic, 1890s home with a careful balance between energy conservation, aesthetics and practicality.
HOME DESCRIPTION:
Sustainability with Style is a careful balance between energy conservation, aesthetics and practicality though efforts of preservation for sustainable re-purposing of this historic home. The projects in this home included reusing and reconditioning the radiators and adding new energy-efficient boilers and ceiling fans to circulate air 3 seasons of the year. This house is just blocks east of the Metra and Harlem Avenue Green Line Stations and 2 blocks west of the Oak Park Avenue Station. During the construction phase, it was ensured that the old windows that were removed remained segregated from the ‘non-toxic’ construction debris explicitly and the window contractor properly disposed of them. Energy was increased and power consumption decreased through Energy Star rated appliances, LED and motion activated lighting, and programmable thermostats.
