SchoolStreet Homes Challenge Home
“We were looking for a well-designed home that fitted around our lifestyle, and which was energy efficient and environmentally friendly. We found that and more in our School Street home.”
ADDRESS: 153 School Street, Libertyville, IL 60048
SIZE: 2,466 square feet
PROJECT TYPE: Single Family New Construction
HOME DESCRIPTION:
The SchoolStreet Challenge Home is in downtown Libertyville’s SchoolStreet development. This development consists of 26 single family homes and 15 lofts crafted into a re-purposed 1939 school. Along with the Challenge Home, it includes a Not-So-Big House designed by Sarah Susanka. Situated in the heart of vibrant Libertyville, within walking distance of shops, restaurants, great pubs and the commuter train station, gives it a walk score of 92. The Challenge Home is unique in its highly energy-efficient design. It harnesses all the natural light and heat it can, has improved insulation, low-energy LED lighting and high efficiency heating and cooling, resulting in the greenest house in the neighborhood. Other features include Energy Star windows and appliances, an HRV ventilation system and garage exhaust, dual-flush toilets, low-flow faucets, exterior EnviroDri insulation, and an Intellihot water heater. The home is smart, too. It intelligently leverages cool basement air for improved cooling, power-reducing lighting management and shade blind control to manage solar radiation. Say homeowners, Quintin and Megan McGrath: “We were looking for a well-designed home that fitted around our lifestyle, and which was energy efficient and environmentally friendly. We found that and more in our School Street home.”
